Tech Health: Protect your Eyes By Turning Your Device’s Blue Light Filter On. Here’s How

We have become increasingly addicted to our smartphones, laptops,UHD screens disregarding the adverse effects and risks we face from the light they emit. Our eyes I’d say suffers the brunt from our new found addiction. Millennials should pay close attention to these issues because they can be very costly.

Countless evidence is emerging that the blue/ HEV (Higher Energy Visible) light  coming off our beloved smart devices and computers may increase the health risk of macular degeneration caused by excessive exposure these devices emit on your eyes. Other findings reveal that the blue/HEV is linked to age-related blindness and some forms of cancer.

What is Blue/ HEV light?

The high energy and shorter wavelengths of light that emits a less consistent flow of light, creating a glare or flickering that can cause eye strain.  This light produces extra sharpness and increased visual contrast that affects our eyes and prevent your from seeing clearer. After extended periods exposure, this can result in headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes, and mental and physical fatigue. Blue Light Exposure is seen as the major cause of computer vision syndrome (CVS) and sleep disruptions.

To guard against these harmful effects most of the tech companies are putting in place safeguards to help users. Whether it’s light from an Android, Apple or PC turning on a blue light filter can be done in just a few steps.

How to Turning Blue Light Filter on Android

Android versions 7.0 and above comes pre-installed in the OS this feature called Night Mode. Enable Night Mode by following the election very short steps:

  • First up, you’ll need to enable the hidden System UI Tuner menu on your device.
  • To do that, swipe down twice from the top of your screen to fully expand the Quick Settings menu.
  • From here, press and hold the little gear icon in the top-right corner, then let go after about 10 seconds. You’ll be taken directly to your Settings menu, where you’ll see a toast message that reads “Congrats! System UI Tuner has been added to Settings.”

 

Step 2

Just type Night Mode in  Google Play Store and choose any of the Night Mode Apps to want. That Simple

How to Turn on the Blue Light Filter (Night Light) on Windows 10 

  • Click Start Button to open the Menu.
  • Click the gear icon to bring up the Settings Menu.
  • Choose System.
  • Select Display.
  • Toggle the Night light switch to On / Off
  • Click Night light settings to adjust the level of blue displayed, or determine the time for Night Light to activate automatically.

And again Windows 10 can automatically start night mode anytime you choose. The OS allows you to set and adjust the times you need the blue light disabled.

How to Turn on the Blue Light Filter (Night Shift) on Mac / iPhone/ iPod

Night Shift uses your computer’s clock and geolocation to determine when it’s sunset in your location. It then automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum. In the morning it returns the display to its regular settings.

  • Open Control Center. Firmly press the Brightness control icon, then tap to turn Night Shift on or off.
  • Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift. On the same screen, you can schedule a time for Night Shift to turn on automatically and adjust color temperature.
