6 min read

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will commence an e-registration for all vehicles in Ghana. This is in line with the digitization project been embarked on by the government which takes off from the 2nd of January 2019.

The Authority says people who wish to register their vehicles in 2019 should present them to the Private Vehicle Test Station for Inspection. This exercise begins from December 3, 2018, to December 31, 2018.

Vehicles will undergo customs clearance, technical inspection, identity check and biometric data capture as part of the registration process.

Officers at the DVLA will be mandated to select the appropriate vehicle category for all vehicles and generate invoices for payments as well. This entire process is expected to begin on the 2nd of December 2019.

Drivers/Car Owners will be issued E-Smart Card drivers’ licence that will be embedded with a contactless chip that stores the bio-data of their bearer.

The e-smart card licence uses the latest technology for secure ID printing and easily integrated into other systems like the NIAs Ghana CardSSNIT, etc

According to DVLA, the E-Registration is part of government’s target to remove the human interface from the process of issuing new licences and capturing the details of every vehicle in the country.
