Social media is aimed at increasing engagement, building new relationships each day, connecting people, etc. Based on  a few experiences  we’ve gather from our readers, social media i.e Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp is sometimes a major distraction even though some people are making serious cash from these platforms by way of marketing their businesses , selling their products, etc .

I say this because of the number of productive hours spent on these platforms each day.  People are literally struggling to get off  social media even at board meetings, church , social gatherings and it’s become some sort of addiction to say the least.

The Social Media Giant, having studied usage patterns, metrics based on collaboration with leading mental health experts and organizations, research, feedback, etc has developed tools that will help users manage their time on Facebook and Instagram this includes:

  1. An activity dashboard
  2. A daily reminder
  3. And a new way to limit notifications.

We want the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram to be intentional, positive and inspiring. Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms and also foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them.

What the Time Limit Feature Means and How it Works on Facebook and Instagram

  • This new feature will let you see a dashboard that tells you how much time you’ve spent on Facebook or Instagram that day.
  • The tool lets you set daily limits for yourself and hit that threshold, you’ll get an alert.
  • You also have to choice to mute any or all push notifications for anywhere from 15 minutes to 8 hours at a time.
