Google To Establish An Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center For Africa in Ghana

AI has great potential to positively impact the world, and more so if the world is well represented in the development of new AI technologies. So it makes sense to us that the world should be well represented in the development of AI. Google has announced the opening of a Google AI research centre for Africa in Ghana’s capital Accra.

The Tech giant is bringing together top machine learning researchers and engineers in this new centre dedicated to AI research and its applications and the centre in Accra joins the list of other locations where we focus on AI, including Paris, Zurich, Tokyo, Beijing, Montreal, Toronto, Seattle, Cambridge/Boston, Tel Aviv/Haifa, New York, and our Mountain View/San Francisco headquarters. Jeff Dean, Senior Fellow at Google AI stated thatGoogle will also be collaborating with local universities and research centres, as well as working with policymakers on the potential uses of AI in Africa.  The main aim of these centres in Africa is to push the boundaries of AI while solving challenges in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, and education.
