Laptop Care : Fixing a Noisy or Loud Laptop Fan

Owning a laptop is serious business and its seeing as a luxury for most. There is one thing using a laptop and another taking care of it or maintaining it to give your maximum return on investment. Laptops today are more powerful mainly because of their enhanced processing capabilities and some off the charts graphics card specifications. However, laptops are still facing aged  old problem called OVERHEATING.

Despite advancements in cooling technologies, overheating remains a major concern when it comes to laptops. Laptop cooling fan makes a lot of noise while playing graphic induced games, or handling heavy processes and tasks. If you have noticed lately that the fan in your laptop is acting weird or are making buzzing noise, there is high possibility your machine will suffer from overheating which will eventually damage your laptop.

In this post, we will walk you through some tips to fix a laptop fan that is making noise. Before we begin, if the below-mentioned tips don’t work for you, consider replacing your fans.

If your laptop fans suddenly sound different or are making so much noise even when you are not working on heavy-graphics tasks, chances are that you now have too many processes running in the background. Therefore, it’s a good idea to kill all the processes on your laptop.

If you are now using a MacBook, you can use Activity Monitor to kill unwanted processes. To open Activity Monitor, you can open up Finder > Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor. From here, you will see a list of all the processes running on your Mac.

Besides, you can prevent some processes from starting up when your MacBook boots up. To do this, head to Apple menu, select System Preferences from the drop-down menu, click on Users and hit Startup.

#2 Reset  SMC (Mac Only)

Resetting SMC serves as a perfect way to fix minor problems on your Mac ranging from keyboard not working to fan running at an abnormal high rate. Before proceeding, try closing all apps on your Mac and then rebooting your machine to see if the problem has been fixed. If the problem still persists, read on.

Step one: First off, you need to shut down your Mac and then plug the power adapter

Step two: Next up, press the Shift, Control, and Option keys from the left of the keyboard (hit the power button at the same time)

Step three: Once you are done, release all keys and then turn your MacBook back on.
